The Reluctant Twilighter

I can't believe I have a Twilight blog…

True Love Waits October 19, 2009

Tonight is a momentous night.  Right about this time, exactly one month from today, we’ll all be waiting around various theaters across the world, waiting for the biggest moment of our lives.  And to mark this night, I have decided to cut myself off from any more New Moon footage from now on.  If I haven’t seen it already, I’m not watchin’ it.  Seriously.  This is it.

This includes the footage to be shown on the Scream Awards (airing October 27th) featuring the wolf pack.  Footage that apparently contains improved, “more realistic” wolves.  The same footage that was featured on Entertainment Tonight this evening.  The same footage that you can download on iTunes for free RIGHT NOW.  I would love nothing more than to pull up iTunes and watch these fancypants CGI wolves at this very moment.  I downloaded the clip already, it’s ready to go.  I was about to watch it, and then I realized something.  Watching these scenes will be so much more awesome if I’m seeing them for the first time in the theater.  On the BIG screen.  I’m sure these wolves would be pretty sweet on any screen no matter what size… but I want to be dazzled.

My anticipation for midnight November 19th IS. GROWING. BY. THE. MINUTE.  The temptation is so high to just go and find every little clip and picture I can.  But I must be strong!  I know the payoff will be high.  I already feel like I’ve seen so much at this point.  Summit has been so kind to show us Bella’s birthday (inlcuding Jasper’s new, yet still ridiculous wig), motorcycles, new creepy Laurent, cliff-diving, shirtless Jacob, hell, they’ve even shown us shirtless Edward!!!  (The most highly-anticipated in the movie for sure.  Well, by me at least.)  I just want to save something for the big day.  For my big day.  I’m doing the right thing.  Right guys?  RIGHT?!?!

Now, I don’t want anyone reading this to think that they have to follow me in this.  I will not judge you.  This is a personal choice that I’m making for me, you all do as you see fit.  Chacun a son gout. (“To each his own” in French.  I know, fancy, right?)  Go ahead, right now, and check out those wolves.  Here’s the link. Let me know what you think.  If I can’t watch it myself, I can at least hear all about it!  Apparently Bella kicks some Quileute ass.

NMWP

And so,  believing that true love waits, I make a commitment to God, myself, my family, my friends, my reader(s), Stephenie Meyer, Chris Weitz, Kristen Stewart, Moon and UC, Johnny Flynn (because he cares), and Edward Cullen (duh, because he’s the biggest supporter of True Love Waits ever) to a month of purity including New Moon abstinence from this day until the day I enter into the Cinebarre on November 19th.

On a completely different note, I reached 500 hits today!  I know that’s not really a lot compared to a lot of blogs out there, but it’s strange for me.  As someone who previously kept her Twilight thoughts to herself, it’s a big deal.  Of course I do realize that if I hadn’t written about Kristen that one time, so long ago, I wouldn’t be anywhere near 500, but whatever.  I’ll take what I can get.  The searches for her are at least getting nicer. Mostly just “Kristen Stewart,” instead of “Kristen Stewart is not nice.”  Maybe the world of Twilighters is starting to take the hint.  So we’re all in agreement?  We’re cool with Kristen?  Okay then.  I think this calls for a big, giant, Kstew lovefest.  I can’t think of a better way to celebrate 500 views, can you?

Come back soon for Kstew Lovefest!!

Big Time Stuff September 12, 2009

I remembered that this blog came about originally because I used to email a friend with all the latest and greatest Twilight news.  She was a busy lady, who still is, so I feel the need today to make sure everyone is well-informed on the events of this weekend.  Big time stuff coming up.

First, the Video Music Awards is airing on Sunday night on MTV.  This. is. big.  BIG! TIME! STUFF!  Ashley Greene will be fashion correspondent on the red carpet.  Muse will be performing a song from their new album.  (As we all know, Muse is one of Stephenie Meyer’s favorite bands who inspired her while she was writing the Twilight series.  Plus, they kick ass.)  Death Cab for Cutie will be premiering their song, “Meet Me On The Equinox” on MTV.com.  Why does this matter to me, you ask?  Because this song was written exclusively for the New Moon soundtrack!  These Northwest boys apparently LOVE Twilight…well, not really I don’t think.  But they were kind enough to help Chris Weitz out and make a song.  Looks like the entire soundtrack is going to be pretty awesome, I heard Bon Iver is contributing as well.  I can’t wait.  BTW, you can already pre-order the soundtrack.  Done and done.

Hometown Heroes!!

Hometown Heroes!!

Furthermore, on this same awards show, Rob, Kristen, and Taylor will be presenting a third New Moon trailer.  A trailer that leaked onto the internet today but was snatched up by Summit before I had a chance to watch it.  Now I want to take this time to talk to everyone about a situation that could possibly arise on Sunday night.  Last year, the VMA’s were hosted by a Mr. Russell Brand.  His hosting did not go over very well, both in the Twilight world and in the regular, non-Twilight one (does such a world exist?) as well.  This is because he made some not-so-nice jokes about the Jonas brothers and their purity rings, called George Bush a retarded cowboy, and much more devastating, interrupted the cast of Twilight while they were trying to introduce a performance by Paramore.  He jumped in with his crazy antics, completely cutting off Rob’s lines, not allowing him to speak at all.  Thus causing chaos in the Twilight world.  War was declared on poor Russell and I’m actually pretty surprised that they asked him to come back this year.  Pleasantly surprised, that is.  I love Russell Brand.  I think he is hilarious.  I read his book, it was really interesting.  I watched his comedy special, and I laughed HARD.  He has a great website with lots of funny videos and posts.  (JUST ADDED! Go check out his website! Today he posted a video today where he sings a little song to a picture of Rob!) Now, there is a possibility that Russell could F things up again, and I hope that if that happens you all can forgive him.  He really means well, he just has a problem controlling himself sometimes.  So give him a break, okay?  The best we can hope for is that they chain him up backstage when it’s time for the Twilight kids to do their thing.  At the very least, turn off his mic when the trailer starts.

Give him a chance. He's actually quite nice.

Give him a chance. He's actually quite nice.

Another important event this weekend is Bella’s birthday, (Sunday, September 13th) which means Stephenie Meyer Day in Forks!  The real town of Forks has chosen this day each year to honor Stephenie and all the attention that her books have brought to their little town.  Exciting activities include: a tour of Forks High School, a character look-alike contest, a car-decorating contest, a bonfire at First Beach, and cake!!  WOOT!  WOOT!  Try not to go too crazy, kids.

Let's get this party started!

Let's get this party started!

Even if you can’t make it to Forks, at least do a little something for Bella on her birthday.  Sing a birthday song, eat a cupcake, whatever you gotta do.  The first time I ever went to Forks and La Push was a year ago, on the day after Stephenie Meyer Day.  The entire town was still decorated for Bella’s birthday.   Banners and balloons in every store window.  I was so embarrassed to be there and declared it the nerdiest thing I had ever done.  Little did I know that a year later I’d be doing this…

Anyways, I hope you all enjoy the events of this weekend, I know for sure I will!

Round 2: Harry vs. Edward!! July 14, 2009

harryandedward

Now this one I’m excited for!  Oh, where do I even start??  Okay here we have two VERY different characters, both very admirable though, don’t you think?  Harry Potter and Edward Cullen.  One is a human boy with magic abilities, one is a 100+ year old vampire trapped in a teenager’s body who can read minds.  One sacrifices all he has to save the entire world, the other spends his days chasing after a very clumsy girl so she doesn’t end up in the hospital AGAIN.

When comparing Edward and Harry, my thoughts go straight to (in my opinion) the best question, who would win in a fight between these two?  This question was asked of Stephenie Meyer awhile back on a Muggle.net podcast, and I couldn’t agree more with her answer.  Harry would not have a chance. Before he could even reach into his pocket to pull out his wand Edward would have torn his head off.  No contest.  Not even JK Rowling could deny this.  Point for Edward!  Even if Harry tried sneak up on Edward while wearing his invisibility cloak (this is where we start to get super-nerdy kids, I hope you’re ready) Edward would be able to not only smell him, but also hear his thoughts a mile away.   (We all know how those Occlumency lessons turned out, Harry.)  The only way Harry would ever have a chance is if he somehow concocted some sort of potion that made him odorless, thoughtless, etc.  But that doesn’t really count, because I’m not talking about some sort of wizard-vampire guerrilla warfare here, I’m talking about hand-to-hand combat.  Although wizard-vampire guerrilla warfare does sound pretty cool…

I know, that was fairly pointless, Harry and Edward would never fight each other!  They’re on the same team!  The good team.  My team.  So what about their personalities?  Who is more likable?  Who would be a better friend?  Better boyfriend?  Well, once again, Edward wins.  Throughout most of the HP books, Harry is moody, whiny and stressed out.  Does he have a lot of outside components in his life causing him to act this way?  Yes.  Does that that mean he can snap at his friends who have been at his side since the beginning?  NO.  Edward can be a little moody too sometimes, but never as bad as Mr. Potter.  Edward has the maturity bonus too.  Harry is boy, Edward is a man.  A man who will never look a day over seventeen.  Someday Harry will grow old, most likely turning out looking very similar to Dumbledore…long beard, wrinkly skin, etc.   Edward’s going to stay gorgeous for all eternity.   Plus I’m pretty positive Edward’s a better kisser.  Even if he is ice-cold.  What’s cooler than being cool??  ICE-COLD!  EDWARD WINS!!!

Author’s note:  I searched through a LOT of pictures of Edward trying to find one of him smiling and failed miserably…

Come on, Edward, you just won! At least TRY to look happy!

Come on Edward, you just won! At least TRY to look happy!

Let the Showdown Begin!! July 13, 2009

As previously stated yesterday, this week I’m going to explore the worlds of Twilight and Harry Potter and which book/movies are the world champions of all sorts of various things.  I’m doing this in honor of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince coming to theaters TOMORROW because I’m just so, so excited and all I want to do is think and talk about this stuff.  (And I figured everyone else is doing it, I might as well jump on the bandwagon, right?)  Before I start though, I am officially declaring that I love both equally with all my heart and would hate to ever have to choose one over the other.  I just think each have their own individual strengths.  Also, I think it’s kind of silly to even compare the two because they are so different, but silly=fun so enough of playing nice!  LET’S GET READY TO RUMBLE!!!

Round 1: Stephenie Meyer vs. JK Rowling!!!

Sigh.  I’m getting this one over with quickly because it kind of makes me sad.

Plus JoJo is way hotter...
Plus JoJo is way hotter…

I wish that I could say that both authors are amazing in their own way and have each given us respectable, well-written novels, but I just can’t.  Jo Rowling takes it on this one, no contest.  Her books are incredible.  She created a completely new world with exciting plots, lovable characters, and tragedies that broke my heart.  Each book in the series got better and better and unfortunately, Stephenie just falls short compared to JoJo.  Stephenie’s books are enjoyable, but I can’t say they’re incredibly well-written.  She did create really great characters and I think she has a wonderful imagination, but those story lines just don’t make sense sometimes!   The timing of the first book was way off…I won’t even get started on Breaking Dawn!  (That plot was just one hot mess.)  Speaking of Breaking Dawn, Rowling gets another point for being able to kill off some of her characters, as opposed to Mrs. Meyer, who was too chicken to take anybody out.  Come on Stephenie, we could have handled it!  I demand a rewrite!  Take that biotch Rosalie down!  ROWLING WINS!

Next up, Harry vs. Edward!

Twilight in the Workplace June 24, 2009

Hello again!  Sorry for the long time between posts, it’s been an unusually rough week at work.  Amidst all the hustle and bustle though, Twilight still crept its way into the workplace over and over.  On my drive home today I was struck with the realization of how often Twilight and Twilight-related subjects are discussed, even in a busy doctor’s office.

A good friend came to stay at my house for a night this weekend.  Within the first five minutes of her arrival, I confessed to her that I had started a Twilight blog.  She still wanted to be my friend, so we went out to dinner.  While we were waiting to be called to our table, we went to the bookstore next door.  We laughed at the amusing Twilight merchandise.  We spent the majority of dinner discussing Twilight (very philosophical stuff, I assure you.)  After coming home for the night, we then watched some of the extras on the Twilight DVD.  I actually made my mom drive over to give me back my copy so we could watch it.  My point is, all of this seems perfectly normal to me.  This is where I expect Twilight to show up in my life.  But at work?  Really?  Let me explain what I’m talking about…

-3 different people rushed into my office this week on seperate occasions to ask me about the Robert Pattinson/Kristen Stewart rumors.  “But I saw the cover of OK! magazine!  They said it’s official!!”  “Don’t believe any of that.   There have been no official announcements.  I will announce to you if they actually announce anything, I promise.”  (For some reason these magazines have not looked up the definition of official.  I think they’re confused about what exactly it means.)

-My boss needed to borrow Eclipse because she’s reading the series again.  That led to a discussion of which books were our favorites, which led to her explaining she liked the ones that have more Quileute interactions, which led to me glaring at her saying, “Oh yeah, I forgot.  You’re Team Jacob.”  (She’s dead to me now.)

-The clinice nurse needed to borrow my copy of New Moon because her mom is almost finished with Twilight.  Let me point out that her mother is an elderly Armenian woman.   I think that’s funny.

-One of our doctors told me that she was watching “one of those entertainment news shows” and they had a feature discussing how Twilight has influenced fashion.  She saw the styles and immediately thought they all looked like me!  (I took it as a compliment, but I’m not sure if she meant it to be one.)

-A different doctor recently went on vacation and brought back a box of those Sweethearts with the Twilight sayings on them for me.  She’s never read Twilight, but she saw the picture of Edward on the box and “just had to get them for me.”  Which was so sweet of her, because I would never, EVER walk up to a counter with a box of Twilight Sweethearts.  That’s just too embarrassing for words.  I can’t imagine the look she must of gotten from the cashier; a successful, intelligent,  middle-aged woman buying candy with a picture of a sexy vampire on the box.  Ha!

-Every once in awhile we’ll get a patient who walks through our doors with one of the books (or a Forks shirt) and I just about go crazy.  Somehow I manage NOT to jump over the counter and squeal at them like a little girl, but the temptation is definitely there.  Instead I run through the halls, squealing to anyone that will listen, “Guys!  Guys!  Did you see!?!?!  Did you see that girl who had an Edward Cullen totebag?!?!  Did anyone ask her which book is her favorite??”

-The Monday after the MTV Movie Awards aired the New Moon trailer, there were quite a few people who either didn’t realize a trailer was going to be shown or had forgotten.  Either way, they hadn’t seen it yet and I ended up reenacting the trailer for them in the break room quite a few times throughout the week.  I don’t want to brag, but I must say I got pretty good at it.

-It is understood throughout the clinic that when “my boyfriend” is discussed, we’re talking about Rob.  Even the losers who haven’t jumped on the bandwagon (yet) know.  They’ve been thoroughly educated on this matter.  “Oh, I saw your boyfriend on TV last night…”  I love it.

In all seriousness, I think Twilight has actually helped us to become a closer group of coworkers, and I’m forever grateful to Stephenie Meyer for that.  There are people at work that I didn’t think I really had anything in common with, but now I can gush over Edward or discuss imprinting with them.  I’m so happy that I don’t have to leave my obsession at home when I come to work every day!

Speaking of work, it’s going to be another hectic day tomorrow, full of Robsten debates and New Moon countdowns (oh, and helping patients I suppose) so I must head for bed now.  Thanks for visiting!!
